— A Rocky Mount woman said she got out of her shower Monday to find a stranger in her Benvenue Road home.

"It is just not something you think would happen to you,” Donna Sherrod said.

Sherrod said that while she often left her doors unlocked, she never expected someone to just come inside.

"I was just praying to God that I wasn't about to die,” she said.

Sherrod said she was in the shower Monday when she heard a noise at the door. By the time she saw the strange man, she said, he was already on his way inside.

"He snatches the door open and runs at me and grabs me around my throat,” she recalled.

Sherrod said she thought her best chance of survival was getting to the kitchen to grab a weapon. However, what really saved her, she said, was her 4-month-old dog. He barked and bit at the stranger.

The man was eventually chased back out the same unlocked door through which he entered.

Sherrod said she feels blessed to have survived the attack.

"I won't keep my door open. I learned my lesson,” she added.

Sherrod said she didn't know the man and is hoping police can arrest him.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111. All calls and information are confidential.

With the information given, the RM police have arrested every male in RM and are holding us for questioning.

I'm not defending her, I don't even know her, but what I don't understand is why you feel you have to stick your nose it where it doesn't belong. If she gets in trouble for this so be it. Is it going to make you sleep better at night?

I used to have a friend that lived on Benvenue road and it is not a bad road to live on. Many big houses, but that is what criminals look for right?!? For 4 months old this little pooch has it going on! I am glad that she is alright. But seriously we do not live in paradise, so lock your doors. My boyfriend gets so irritated with me because I will come in and it is automatic to lock the doors when I come in or go out, and I live 1 mile off the road!

consensus ....It is appears to be a made up story, either she is wacky or ....?

sorry to say but WRAL gave her what she wanted and played into her hands, not me.

you can't slander someone if you're telling the truth.

mmania, i don't understand why you want to defend her so badly.

  • mmania Aug 12, 2008

So if this woman was publicity, you guys are really giving her what she wants. You could also get in trouble for slander for what you have written about this woman. Know her or not you really should be careful what you say (write) about someone.
If she is lying she got what she wanted and you played right into her hand.

Wow -- Donna Sherrod, this woman has over five alias, at least two social security numbers, and at least has two nc department of corrections numbers. She has an extensive criminal background. I really doubt that she was the victim. Maybe the Rocky Mount Police Department should fingerprint her and find out who this woman really is before they beat the streets to find a man that don’t exist. She is the most despicable person waking the face of the earth. Appears that the attention and drama of the courtroom are not enough for her. Now she needs media coverage?!? I agree that she definitely was enjoying the attention as she has in the courtroom being the defendant. AND….is that really her dog? If so, poor dog. Lilley is definitely in need of a good home.-- WRAL really should check the creditability of the people they air in their stories. WAY TO GO “DOGS BEST FRIEND 24“...some of us are aware of the lair behind this story.

i don't have to know all the details...i already know enough to know i don't believe this story, and what does it have to do with you either? do you know her or are you the woman in question. like i have said a few times already...i know this woman.

"if that's the case so what?"
why would you want to believe something that's so obiously a lie?

  • mmania Aug 12, 2008

I'm not upset, I just don't understand why you have to know every little detail when it has nothing to do with you. You already pretty much called this girl a liar. If that's the case so what?

Smart dog! Now if they can catch the perpetrator. Hopefully his bite will get infected and he will have to seek medical care.
