No charges in father-son shooting in Benson

Tony Barnes

Keith Barnes will not be charged in the July 22 shooting of his father, the Johnston County district attorney has decided.

Cody Barnes said his brother Keith, 26, was arguing with a man in the front yard of his home at 704 W. Parrish Drive in Benson. His father, long-time bail bondsman, Tony Barnes, 50, tried to stop the argument.

"And the boy got on top of my dad, and my brother came out with a shot gun, shot and hit my dad, pretty much," Cody Barnes said.

Cody Barnes said the shooting was an accident and that his brother was trying to shoot the other man.

Tony Barnes underwent surgery at WakeMed and is currently listed in fair condition.
