Raleigh mobile home park saved from development plan
More than 160 residents of a mobile-home park in Raleigh got some relief from a threatened development this week.
Posted — UpdatedCity planners voted not to rezone the Homestead Village Mobile Home Community, a 38.5-acre property off Capital Boulevard, near Jacqueline Drive.
The owner of the property was hoping to sell the land to a developer, who would build a shopping center, offices, apartments and single-family residences.
Residents of the community own their mobile homes, but rent the lots on which they sit. The property is owned by Robert and Katherine Binns.
Many residents feared they would be forced out of their community if the property is sold.
The planning board recommendation means a sale is no longer in the short-term plans.
