LAURINBURG, N.C. — A fight at an early morning party on Tuesday led to a shoot-out in which two men were killed and one man wounded, according to the Scotland County Sheriff's Office.

Richard Locklear Jr. was hosting a party at his home at 14960 Locklear Road when a fight between him and two other men broke out shortly before 3 a.m., Sheriff Sheppard Jones said.

During the fight, Locklear, Thomas Grant and Byron Phipps began shooting at each other.

Locklear and Grant died of gunshot wounds at the scene, Jones said.

Phipps was shot in the stomach and underwent surgery at Scotland Memorial Hospital. He was listed in critical condition in the intensive-care unit later Tuesday.

Jones said investigators believe the men had been drinking. All three men involved in the shooting were friends, he said.
