GARNER, N.C. — Police have charged two teenagers with bringing guns to schools in Garner and Raleigh in the past two days.

Administrators at Garner Magnet High School called police after receiving an anonymous tip. Officers found a Colt .38 in a backpack belonging to Donnell Underdue, 16, while he was in class.

Underdue was charged with felony possession of a handgun on school property. He was released from the Wake County Jail after posting a $3,000 secured bond.

In Raleigh, the principal of Athens Drive High is preparing a letter to parents about an incident involving a gun on that campus Thursday afternoon.

According to a source, the letter cites "a student involved in inappropriate activity" who ran from the school.  When school resource officers caught the student, they "found a handgun in close proximity to the student."

According to Raleigh Police, Richmond Fowler, 18, was charged with carrying a gun on school property, carrying a concealed weapon, second-degree trespassing and resisting arrest.

Wake County Schools spokesman Chip Sudderth said the district had received a copy of the letter, but did not have any additional information.
