Guns found at 2 Wake schools
Two Wake County high schoolers were caught with guns on campuses over the past two days.
Posted — UpdatedAdministrators at Garner Magnet High School called police after receiving an anonymous tip. Officers found a Colt .38 in a backpack belonging to Donnell Underdue, 16, while he was in class.
Underdue was charged with felony possession of a handgun on school property. He was released from the Wake County Jail after posting a $3,000 secured bond.
In Raleigh, the principal of Athens Drive High is preparing a letter to parents about an incident involving a gun on that campus Thursday afternoon.
According to a source, the letter cites "a student involved in inappropriate activity" who ran from the school. When school resource officers caught the student, they "found a handgun in close proximity to the student."
According to Raleigh Police, Richmond Fowler, 18, was charged with carrying a gun on school property, carrying a concealed weapon, second-degree trespassing and resisting arrest.
Wake County Schools spokesman Chip Sudderth said the district had received a copy of the letter, but did not have any additional information.
