FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville's annual spring party, the Dogwood Festival, officially got under way Friday.

During the day, crews readied for the big event, building booths for the dozens of vendors who will take part. The fun really starts tonight when Eddie Money takes the stage.

The festival runs Saturday from noon until 10 p.m., with food, children's activities and bands on two stages.

After some controversy about their participation, religious groups will play a role in the action. A company just outside the festival grounds is renting spaces to groups, including churches, to spread their message and sell their wares.
