— An Elm City man was facing charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Wilson County.

Christopher Lee Estep, 20, was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday on U.S. Highway 301, near Firestone Parkway. Just after 7 a.m., a passerby called 911 after seeing a body lying in the median.

Justin Harris, 19, was charged Sunday with felony hit and run. Police say Harris was driving the gray-colored vehicle that struck Estep and kept going.

Harris was arrested overnight at a house off Highway 42 West. His arrest came after someone at the house called police to report Harris' car being involved in a collision.

Officers had issued a brief description to the media Saturday of the suspect vehicle.

Harris was held in the Wilson County Detention Center Sunday. He posted bond and was released Monday.

He posted bond and was released Monday.--WRAL

I know this is the way our system is supposed to work. I just wish that in hit and run cases there was another way to do this so the person was not released. Ah, well...

How can you not know if you hit someone? He had to be really tore up to not know. Maybe he thought that he hit a deer. He shouldnot have been given the opportunity to get out;just because he left the scene.

Glad they caught him. That is so sad to hit a person, then leave them for dead, as if they are nothing. He should have not had a bond for because he never stopped to get help. Who knows, he may have had a fighting chance to live. Shame on this guy and I hope that he pay dearly for what he has done to this young man and his family.

Why is this guy back out in public? Why was he given the opportunity for bail? He hit a man with his car & left him for dead. What does it take these days to keep criminals off the streets & out of our communities?

this happened 1.5 miles from my house. It was really disturbing to see that body in the median and know he had been hit and left for dead. I don't understand how this guy says he thought he hit a deer, yet when they come out with the details, he does not come forward and say, hmmm, wait a minute.....
