— A former Chatham County charter school teacher charged with sexual exploitation involving computer posted bond Friday morning and will appear in court again May 1, Morrisville police said.

Jason Perkins, 38, stands accused of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, police said.

Perkins, who taught at the Woods Charter School in northern Chatham County, resigned from his teaching position as a result of the probe.

Digital images of a child under the age of 16 were recovered on Perkins' home computer hard drive, police said.

According to court documents, the photos show a female child engaged in sexual acts alone and with an adult male.

A State Bureau of Investigation source told WRAL that Perkins came under investigation after he solicited an undercover officer online on Feb. 13.

Perkins taught middle and high school students at Woods. Before teaching there, he taught in the school systems of Wake, Cumberland and Carteret counties, the SBI said.

My daughter tried several times to get a job in chatham county for a social studies techer but was never hired. She would have made a good teacher and never would have cross that kind of line. Instead chatham county hired a child molester. And you thought putting your child in a charter school setting would be safer than a public school. Have they stopped doing back-ground checks in chatham county? Are they (chatham county) desperate to have a teacher that they hire just any old one without strong back-ground checking? Regardless who the person is, a back-ground check should be a priority.

EDUARDO1 - I do think the punishment should be in sync with the crime - castration would be a start!

Internet porn is one thing....but w/children? Don't these individuals know this type is being heavily monitored and they WILL be caught? And all these rapes/sexual charges w/minors is simply horrific.

He taught at Moore's Square Middle School last year. He does have a wife and kids. He was my child social studies teacher. By all "outward" appearances and interactions he was a regular guy.....looks are deceiving in this case.

I'm not surprised, there are many teachers and priest that we don't suspect that are perverted. They are worst than gang members in a sense. I can identify most gang members by appearance. But these pedophile live among us and it's nearly impossible to detect. Many live in affluent areas, check out http://www.familywatchdog.us/ and you will be shocked at where most of these sex offenders live.

Let's hope he DID stop at looking, which is bad enough, but certainly not as bad as taking action on his more despicable "urges".
