— A Fayetteville woman was killed early Tuesday after she and her boyfriend were ambushed on a country road, authorities said.

Jessica Cahoon, 26, had gone to Robeson County with her boyfriend, Antonio Locklear, on Monday night to celebrate his mother's birthday. They were headed home after midnight in her Honda Civic when three men in a champagne-colored Cadillac forced them to stop on Old Red Springs Road, authorities said.

The men shot Cahoon in the head as she sat in the driver's seat, authorities said. Locklear ran into the woods along the road to hide and suffered minor injuries to one of his arms, authorities said.

Authorities hadn't identified a motive for the shooting by Tuesday night.

Cahoon lived with her parents and worked full time at a Fayetteville hotel, neighbor Juanita McLean said.

"(She was) very independent. She worked every day," McLean said. "They hurt an innocent person, a very good person."

I went to school with Jessica and worked with her. She was a very nice girl. My prayers are with her family and friends in this time of need!! Such a senseless crime, no matter the reason.

How cruel can some of these people be in our society today? Totally innocent people going about their business and get ambushed. They will be caught. This sounds like a death sentence to me. Life without parole for sure.

I pray for the family members. Anymore when I go out, I am watching other people in cars, shopping centers, grocery stores, etc...WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO ASSUME ANYTHING.

There are too many vultures out there just waiting for an opportunity to rob and kill. This one hurts my heart.

Who stops for anybody in the middle of the night on a lonely, dark country road?

Those guys would have been tested trying to keep up with me.

Well, this story has been speedily buried by WRAL... Now we have headlines about McMansions and Roy Williams on the front page. I wonder why?

Actually, I think we all know why this story isn't headline news any longer.

It was a FINE STATE TROOPER that left those ladies on the side
of the road. There is no excuse for that. I wonder if he could
live with hisself if those poor ladies had got hurt.

Let's see if WRAL will post THIS comment.

It's sounds like to me this girl was involved with someone who probably has/had a criminal record, and was with him at the wrong place and the wrong time... my prayers are with her family.

"Just another reason for law abiding citizens to be armed"

Indeed. It's ridiculous (and dangerous) to believe the police will take care of you. We all need to take care of ourselves and the people we care about. It's past time time begin to take responsibility for our own well-being. The police CANNOT do it.
