FREMONT, N.C. — A preliminary autopsy report shows a Wayne county woman was shot in the head, investigators said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said it is offering an additional $3,000 reward, above what Crime Stoppers pays, for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the death of Silvia Morales Benitez, 28.

Investigators believe someone shot Morales at her home on Black Creek Road in Fremont sometime between 1:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on March 3.

Her 7-year-old daughter returned from school around 3:45 p.m. and found her mother dead. A 3-year-old boy inside the home was unharmed, authorities said.

Investigators said they have no suspects or a motive in the case. However, they do not think robbery was a motive or drugs were involved.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at 919-731-1493 or Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.

Tony Balance, who employs Morales Benitez's husband at a farm near the couple's home, described her as a kind woman who was actively involved in her church.
