Johnny Torres, 36, of West Palm Beach, Florida, was arrested Thursday after he lost control of his rental car and ran it into a ditch along Highway 421 in Sampson County.
Cumberland County deputies charged Torres with two felony counts of trafficking in cocaine, one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and deliver and one felony count for speeding to elude arrest. A female passenger, Sara Anne Buckingmeyer, also of West Palm Beach, Florida, was issued a citation and released.
Torres and Buckingmeyer were traveling northbound along I-95 when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop them for a minor traffic violation. Torres failed to pull over and drove his rented Saturn at high rates of speed for about 28 minutes through Cumberland and into Sampson County before the crash.
Torres is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond. He is expected to return to court on Feb. 26.
