HENDERSON, N.C. — A stolen-vehicle chase ended in a crash Tuesday afternoon when a van overturned near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Bearpond Road south of Henderson, officials said.

Vance County deputies chased the van for about six miles on U.S. 1 at speeds of 80 to 100 mph, authorities said. The van went out of control about two miles inside Franklin County and wound up on its roof along the right side of southbound U.S. 1.

The driver of the van, Damien Yancey, 20, of Henderson, was treated at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson and was released. He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods and speeding to elude arrest.

The truck, owned by Loyd Plumbing Co. of Henderson, had been reported stolen from a job site in Henderson.

Yancey was being held in the Vance County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
