Copper Thieves Target Burned Strip Club

Two men are facing charges in connection with stealing 150 pounds of copper wire from the charred remains of Pure Gold's Crazy Horse Adult Club.

CLAYTON, N.C. — Two men are facing charges in connection with stealing from a Wake County strip club.

Jonathan Hockaday, 38, and John Henry Johnson Jr., 42, were arrested for stealing copper wire from Pure Gold's Crazy Horse Adult Club.

The club at 3008 U.S. Highway 70 in Clayton was gutted by fire during the early morning hours of Jan. 6

Police said the men took 150 pounds of copper wire from the charred remains.

They were charged with misdemeanor larceny. Hockaday’s bond was set Saturday at $500; Johnson's bond was $1,000.

Meanwhile, investigation said they believe the fire may have been intentionally set.

A search warrant released Friday states that investigators detected a strong odor of gasoline following the fire.

Investigators seized several items from the scene, including insurance enrollment forms, several checks and samples of carpet and soil, according to the search warrant.
