Spring Lake — Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives have charged a woman in the death of a Spring Lake man who was found lying in his front yard.

Beverly Ann Black, 45, of 121 Bogart St., was arrested Sunday night. She was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Terrance Anthony Brockington, 42, of 103 N. Mitchely St.

He was on the front lawn of his residence at around 8 p.m. Sunday and had been stabbed, authorities said. Investigators say a dispute between the pair led to the crime.

Brockington was transported by ambulance to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he later died. An autopsy will be conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill to determine the exact cause of death.

Black was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. She was expected to make a first court appearance Monday.
