Bill Clinton Appearance Off Until Monday

Former President Bill Clinton on Thursday postponed a campaign appearance in Raleigh on behalf of his wife. Bad weather kept his flight in New Jersey.

Clinton had been expected to attend a private, $1,000-a-plate fundraiser at Brier Creek Country Club to raise money for Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. It was rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Hillary Clinton was in Iowa Thursday for a debate among Democratic presidential candidates.

Bad weather in New Jersey forced a delay in Bill Clinton's flight to the Triangle, requiring that the event be out off, officials said.

It was rescheduled for Monday.

Clinton also filled in for his wife at a $1 million fundraiser in New Jersey Wednesday night. She missed that because she didn't want to risk having a severe ice storm cause her to miss an Iowa debate.

Explaining her absence Wednesday, Clinton emphasized the importance of his wife's doing well in the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3, an important early test in the New York senator's quest to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

"She started off way behind there," he told the audience. "And she might just win anyway. For that, I'm very proud of her."
