Couple Killed in Parking Lot Remembered as Giving

Lynn Bremer, 48, of 1100 Clarendon St. Apt. 610, remains in the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. There was no word on her condition.

Bremer's Mercury Grand Marquis careened though the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 4601 Ramsey St. at about 60 mph shortly before noon Monday. Police said they believe Bremer experienced a medical problem that caused her to lose control of the car.

Richard A. Myers, 63, and his wife, Christine "Gail" Myers, 59, of 235 Prince Charles Drive, were leaving the Tire & Lube Express area at the back of the store when they were struck  and killed by the car.

The Myerses had gone to Wal-Mart to buy a new battery for their minivan, Gail Myers' sisters said.

"I've had several feelings. I've been mad, sad. I want something done about it now," Jane Fisher said. "When you have such a tragic thing (that) just shakes your life around in a few minutes, it's just so hard to adjust. You say, 'Why, when they have everything going for them?'"

The Myerses had been married for 43 years. They met when he was an Army recruit at Fort Bragg and she was a high school student.

Richard Myers was a consummate handyman, his sister-in-law Toni Wilson said.

“He would do anything for anybody,” Wilson said. “He just finished a sun porch on the back of our house.”

The couple loved to decorate, and their home was decked out in Christmas lights on Tuesday.

Gail coordinated everything for the family, her sisters said.

"She did something for all of us, whether it was doing hair or sewing clothes or whatever. She just did everything. She was the rock," Wilson said.

Police said it's not clear whether Bremer will face charges in the case.
