GARNER, N.C. — Garner police charged a Wake County man late Wednesday with robbing a bank and leading them on a chase, and the FBI was called in to investigate whether there were connections with other heists.

The chaos began at about 2 p.m. at a Bank of America at 547 Benson Rd. when it was allegedly robbed at gunpoint. Police chased the suspect for several miles. The suspect's Dodge minivan hit a motorcycle before he ditched it, and ran inside a Domino’s Pizza distribution center in Greenfield Parkway, authorities said.

“It was an all around unsafe situation,” said Garner Police Sgt. Joe Binns.

After a search of the distribution center, the unarmed suspect was found. Samuel James Cooper, 30, surrendered to authorities. A gun and a stash of cash were recovered in the van.

Cooper was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony speeding to elude arrest. More charges are expected, authorities said.
