More input sought in Raleigh roundabout debate
Raleigh city leaders said they need more time to decide whether to add another roundabout to Hillsborough Street.
Posted — UpdatedAt Wednesday's meeting, the Raleigh City Council decided it wants to have another public hearing to discuss a roundabout that would be located at the intersection of Morgan and Hillsborough. The change is needed to convert Morgan Street into a two-way street.
The City Council has already approved two roundabouts in the area – one at the intersection of Pullen Road Hillsborough Street and another at the intersection of Oberlin Road and Groveland Avenue.
Council members voted in October to move forward with more parking, raised medians and buried power lines to improve the look of Hillsborough Street. Officials said the changes are part of an effort to make the street more user-friendly.
The Raleigh City Council said they will revisit the issue in January. If approved, the roundabout at Morgan Street would cost about $500,000.
