GARNER, N.C. — A member of the U.S. Marshal's Eastern Violent Fugitive Task Force fired his gun Thursday afternoon while trying to serve an arrest warrant at a Garner Motel.

McKinley Jones, 29, tried to attack one of the officials at about 2:30 p.m. at the Econo Lodge at 1602 Mechanical Blvd., authorities said. Authorities were attempting to serve Jones and his wife, Saundia Jones, 29, with warrants for drugs and weapons charges.

The shots fired by the official did not hit anyone, and no injuries were reported. The Joneses were taken into custody.

A swarm of law enforcement authorities were seen conducting room-to-room searches of the motel, with weapons drawn.

Additional charges against the Joneses are pending, and authorities will conduct an investigation into the shooting, which is standard procedure whenever a law enforcement officer fires his weapon.
