A 41-year-old man and his 6-year-old neighbor were found safe early Sunday morning after they got lost in the woods while four-wheeling on Saturday.

A mobile command center was set up at Macedonia Baptist Church in Harnett County overnight after the man called home around 7 p.m. and reported they were lost near Shearon Harris Lake.

During the call, the man's cell phone died, so dozens of searchers on four-wheelers were called out to help. Wake County authorities also had a boat on the lake, just in case.

Authorities said the sound of the searchers' four-wheelers led the man and boy to safety. They were cold and wet, but otherwise OK, officials said.

About 50 people were involved in the search, which was headed up by the Harnett County Search and Rescue.

Authorities did not release the names of the man and boy.

It was not a father/son outing.... The man and boy were not related.

"It's great they were found unharmed. And it's grea that they had the father/son togetherness day. What I don't understand is how parents can purposefully show children about breaking the law. Whether it is letting them drive or back up the car in the driveway or riding 4 wheelers in the woods. No wonder kids are the way they are today. Parents are partly to blame, showing them the way."

showing them the way? yes, us parents who give a flip about our children learning right from wrong or if our children know anything at all about life do tend to "show them the way"

you have your opinion, as for me, I choose to continue to show mine the way.

What a happy ending!!!

Gatechfan - I am thinking the same thing! I would never let my 6 year old on a 4-wheeler with a neighbor! Especially, to go off into the woods.

Glad they are ok..........
