NEW HILL, N.C. — The wheels of a caboose and part of an empty flatbed car derailed at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant, Progress Energy officials announced Friday.

Officials said the wheels of the rail car carrying an empty fuel-shipping container remained on the tracks, fully upright and fully intact the entire time. The container was not damaged in the accident.

Plant officials said the rail car came off the tracks when individuals inaccurately communicated about whether the tracks were prepared for the train’s movement.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage. The rail car was later moved safely into its storage location. Officials said there was no danger to the plant and the public.
