Crews were able to repair traffic lights at a Raleigh intersection that were damaged after an early Tuesday morning accident.

Authorrities said George Allen Clark, 60, of Harps Mill Road in Raleigh was traveling south on Falls of Neuse Road near Spring Forest Road when his vehicle crossed the northbound lanes and drove between a power pole and a tree. Clark's vehicle struck a traffic box that contains controls for the stoplights at that intersection.

Officers were out directing traffic in the area while crews conducted repairs. Initially, officials thought the repairs would last until Tuesday afternoon, but crews were able to finish the work sooner.

The accident also damaged a telephone box at the intersection, resulting in a loss of service.

Officers arrested Clark, who had fled the scene in another vehicle. Clark has been charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license and hit-and-run.

There is nothing in the news report that indicates exactly when the accident happened, only that the crash occurred after midnight and before the story was posted at 5:30 AM. Still, drinking and driving is inexcusable whether it happens right after the bars let out (my guess), at sunrise, or at sunset.

Walkerterrance, I think you've got the wrong story. This one is about George Allen Clark and his early-morning antics (maybe on his way home from work).

Bob, was a great man, he meant alot to wake county and particularly the state of NC. My prayers are with his wife, dad and the whole family.

I don't agree with what the man did but some of you need to remember that there are people who work 3rd shift and this is "after work" for him. What he did is wrong but you don't know if he has a problem with drink or not, just the stupidity to drink and drive.

I wonder where he was coming from.... **in deep thought**
