Traveling 9/11 Memorial Exhibit in Raleigh

The collection tells the story of what happened that day from different perspectives. It includes a timeline, photographs, artifacts and a movie.

"I feel that every year it slips a little bit, and this memorial and the tour are gonna do great things to bring it to the forefront of people's minds," said Keating Crown, a 9/11survivor who was on the 78th floor of Tower Two at the World Trade Center in New York that morning.

The exhibit is on 15-city tour designed to build support for a new National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center site.

People who were in New York City on 9/11 said this is something the country needs.

"The memorial, as it's been designed, is really so incredible, and it's gonna be a special place where people come to remember and to reflect and celebrate the lives of those lost," said Crown.

Elaine Teague's daughter, Sandy, was on American Airlines Flight 77 when it hit the Pentagon.

"I'm very happy that she'll be remembered in a very special place forever," said Teague.

The exhibit will be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of City Hall and in Nash Square.

Visitors also can sign a steel beam that will be used in constructing the memorial and museum.

Other stops after Raleigh include Norfolk, Va.; Pittsburgh; Charleston, W.Va.; Cincinnati; Lexington, Ky.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Lansing, Mich.; Aurora, Ill.; Madison, Wis.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Des Moines, Iowa; Omaha, Neb.; and Wichita, Kan.
