Military IDs Bragg Paratroopers Killed in Iraq

Posted September 13, 2007

— Military officials have identified seven paratroopers who died early Monday when their vehicle crashed in Iraq.

Fort Bragg spokesman Maj. Tom Earnhardt said the troops were returning from a raid in Baghdad when their five-ton FMTV veered off an elevated highway and plunged about 33 feet to the ground below.

The soldiers who died in the accident were:

  • Pfc. Ari D Brown-Weeks, 23, of Abingdon, Md.
  • Pfc. Steven Elrod, 20, of Hope Mills, N.C.
  • Staff Sgt. Yance Gray, 26, of Ismay, Mont.
  • Sgt. Michael C. Hardegree, 21, of Villa Rica, Ga.
  • Sgt. Omar Mora, 28, of Texas City, Texas
  • Sgt. Nicolas Patterson, 24, of Rochester, Ind.
  • Staff Sgt. Gregory Rivera-Santiago, 26, of St. Croix, Virgin Islands

Military officials said they believe the vehicle blew a tire and was not the target of an attack. The soldiers were members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, also known as Falcon Brigade.

God Bless America and God Bless our troops.. it's easy to forget why we are there, but its not hard to remember that alot of young men and women were willing to go on our behalf, and our childrens behalf to ensure we never had to live in those conditions.. even though these young men and women didn't even know us personally.

May God bless these families in their time of need. All to often we forget how precious our lives are until something like this happens. May each and everyone of us take a moment of silence and thank God for each man and woman risking their lives for this country.

My hearts and prayers go out to this family and to others who has a loved one fighting for our country as well as those who lost a love one in this war. God bless all of the brave men and women who are fighting for out country. Hopefully, Bush will come to his senses and allow all of them to come home.

What a tragic loss having served for 23 years in our nations military, its does not get any easier. My heart fills with pride and my eyes swells with tears for this young men and women serving so proudly. As a parent my love and prayers goes out to the families of this heroes. Knowing that they did this with out being asked or forced makes it even harder. Its unfortunate that we can send the thugs and misfits and those serving in prison over to take their place.
