COATS, N.C. — A state trooper was injured Saturday evening during a car chase in Harnett County, the Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Bryan Barbour attempted to pull over a car for speeding on Red Hill Church Road in Coats. The driver refused to pull over, and Barbour pursued the car, authorities said.

Barbour was going around a curve when he saw the car slowing to pull into a driveway. He swerved to avoid the car and ran into a ditch.

Barbour was taken to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn for an injured arm and was later released.

According to the HIghway Patrol, two people jumped out of the car and ran into the woods, but authorities were able to apprehend the passenger.

Troopers also said they had received information about the driver and expected to make an arrest. They plan to charge the driver with speeding, driving while impaired and aggressive driving.

The Harnett County's Sheriff's Office, which assisted in the search, has not released the name of either suspect.
