Raleigh, N.C. — A Clayton woman pleaded guilty Friday to embezzling more than $200,000 from a political action committee she represented.
Stacy Flannery was sentenced to 60 days in jail and placed on probation for 30 months. She also was ordered to continue substance-abuse and mental-health counseling.
Flannery was director of legislative affairs for the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association. She was charged last month with stealing money from the group's PAC over a seven-year period.
She apologized in court Friday for violating people's trust and said she is working hard to regain it.
The PAC has already been repaid all of the money taken from it, officials said. Flannery also paid the group's legal fees.
