Progress Energy fined over cheating nuke plant guards
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Thursday proposed a $65,000 fine against Progress Energy after security guards at Shearon Harris cheated on a required test.

Guards working for contractor Securitas Security Services USA Inc. were provided test answers by three company supervisors during required requalification tests in 2005, the NRC said in a statement.
The agency also filed violation notices with Securitas and the three supervisors.
The cheating was one of 19 concerns brought to the NRC's attention two years ago by the Union of Concerned Scientists and the North Carolina Waste Awareness and Reduction Network.
The NRC finished looking into most of the allegations last year – regulators determined some doors were improperly left open – and recently completed its review of the final three concerns, officials said.
Progress Energy doesn't plan to contest the fine, spokeswoman Julie Hans said.
The guards who cheated no longer work at Shearon Harris, and the entire security force has since been retested, Hans said. The annual requalification test is now administered and graded by the plant's training group and not Securitas, she said.
