Sharon Bryant, babysitter charged with child abuse

An infant was critically injured late Wednesday, and his babysitter was charged Thursday with child abuse, police said.

Sharon Bryant, 24, of 6003-C Shanda Drive in Raleigh, was charged with felony child abuse and was being held in the Wake County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Police said Bryant admitted throwing the 11½-month-old boy to the floor as she kept him in her apartment.

The child suffered a fractured skull and a brain hemorrhage, police said. He was listed in critical condition Thursday evening at WakeMed.

It wasn't clear if Bryant, who wasn't related to the child, was caring for other children in her home, police said.

The incident is the fourth criminal case involving child victims in the area in the past week. The other three cases ended in child fatalities.

Diontay Deshone Williams, 24, of 1307 Castalia Drive in Cary, was charged with murder on Aug. 23 in the shaking death of his 7-month-old son.

Jerry Alan Helisek, 39, of Pointer Drive in Raleigh, was charged with murder on Sunday in the slaying of his girlfriend's 2½-year-old daughter.

Eric Brandon Carter Jr., 18, of Raleigh, was charged with murder Tuesday in the death of his 10½-month-old daughter.

Stories make me sick to my stomach. How can some be so blind to the vulnerability of infants and young children? It is so sad to see these kinds of things over and over again. Railing against the abuser is understandable, but prevention is what we really need. After the fact, the damage is done.

This woman has no excuse for what she did to this child, I don't care what or who so called did her wrong. It is no excuse for nearly killing a baby, throwing it down on the ground. From emails I have received, this child is still in GRAVE danger. The Dr. continue to srill holes to reduce swelling and pressure, but it is still very much in the hands of the LORD. IT is terrible what this woman did, but this child, his parents & all the medical staff need our prayers.

Hope she likes carp

Some day this woman is going to know how it is to be hurt like this baby was. Hope she realizes how it is to be in a situation where you have no control. Prays for the family and alot for that blessed littile child. GOD BLESS.

Interesting-no censorship on this story, censorship on the Homeowner shoots intruder, what could be the criteria?
