Man Charged in Slaying of Girlfriend's Toddler

Man Charged With Murdering Girlfriend's Toddler

Durham police arrested a Raleigh man Sunday and charged him with the slaying of his girlfriend’s 2 ½-year-old daughter.

Jerry Alan Helisek, 39, of Pointer Drive in Raleigh, was not the child’s father, police said.

Officers were dispatched to #9 Esterbrook Court at 11:18 p.m. Saturday to assist EMS personnel at a cardiac arrest call. When they arrived, they found Cadency Ramsey unconscious on the floor in an upstairs bedroom, according to police.

The child was taken to Duke University Hospital, where she later died. An autopsy conducted Sunday revealed that the child died as a result of blunt force trauma, police said.

Investigators took out a murder warrant Sunday night on Helisek, the mother’s boyfriend. He was later arrested on Esterbrook Court.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday morning.
