Tobacco Warehouse Burned to the Ground in Oxford

OXFORD — Fire investigators are still trying to find outwhat caused a fire in a Granville County tobacco warehouse.

Smoke could be seen for miles as the Yeargin warehouse burned to theground Friday morning in downtown Oxford.

The warehouse was built in 1965, and contained 2,000 pounds of tobaccoand some fertilizer at the time of the fire.

No one was hurt, but the building is a complete loss. The owner saysthe fire caused about $1.5 million in damages to the warehouse and itscontents.
