RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — The 1999 Special Olympics World Summer Games is $1 million richer, thanks to one of the Triangle's largest corporations.
Glaxo Wellcome made their large donation Tuesday. They also announced that they were encouraging employees to serve as volunteers for the huge event.
The Special Olympic World Games will be played in the Triangle in the summer of 1999. It will be the world's largest sporting event that year.
7,000 athletes, 2,000 coaches and 15,000 family members from 150 countries will flood the Triangle for the ten-day event, which begins on June 26, 1999.
