Law Enforcement Colleagues Say Goodbye
Posted December 29, 1997
DAVIDSON — Law officers from across the state have said goodbye to another colleague killed in the line of duty.
Davidson police officer Mark Swaney, 26, was shot to death on Christmas day during a scuffle with a suspect. The suspect who shot Swaney also died in that shootout.
A caravan of police cars led the procession through the town of Mooresville Sunday.
More than 1000 people filled Fieldstone Presbyterian Church to pay their last respects.
Cary police officer Jeff Huser said he thinks some people don't understand the risks and dangers faced by law enforcement officers.
Swaney is the fifth North Carolina officer killed in the line of duty since July.
