RALEIGH — Wake County's homeless population got an early Christmas present Monday. Federal funding for various projects in the area was forthcoming from Vice President Al Gore and HUD.
Raleigh Mayor Tom Fetzer received the good news today in a conference call with Gore and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo.
HUD is funding providing $800 million to local agencies across the country. Wake and Raleigh will get $1.6 million. Eight local agencies will share the funds.
Fetzer said he didn't forget to thank Gore and Cuomo.
The money will be used to create more housing for the homeless, and to increase services provided.
