Communist Camp Survivor Reunited with Family at RDU

MORRISVILLE — The holidays are a time for family and loved-ones. But for one family, the holidays will be extra bright, as a father is finally reunited withhis son and his grandchildren.

It's a Christmas gift that Dr. Kelly Tao has waited for nearly fourdecades. Tao was finally reunited Sunday with his family after beingforced into a Communist labor camp in China back in 1959. Tao's son wasseven years old at the time.

Tao's father found out where he was six months after he disappeared. Butthere was nothing anyone could do to help. Since Tao was released fromthe camp in 1980, he has only seen his son and grandchildren once.

With the arrival of a flight at RDU, Tao's family was brought together forgood, just in time for the holidays.

"We're finally a family together," Tao says. "We're very happy."

Tao and his family will spend the holidays together in Maryland with histwo sisters. As for gifts, Tao says he already has his.
