LUMBERTON — A group of holiday travelers never made it to their destination early Saturday morning. A traffic accident on Interstate 95 sent their van off the road, causing it to overturn to a fatal stop.
The accident happened north of Lumberton around 1:30 a.m. Officers say the van sideswiped another vehicle, causing it to crash. Four people riding in the van were killed.
They are identified as 71-year-old Leroy Brown, 63-year-old Vera Porter, 62-year-old Malachi Brown and 57-year-old Oletha Cameron.
All of the deceased were from Paterson, New Jersey. Six other people were injured in the accident. There's no word on their conditions, or if those people were in the van or the car that was sideswiped.
Alcohol does not appear to have played a part in the wreck.
