BEAUFORT — The town of Beaufort isn't out of hot wateryet with the state because of a sewage leak that lasted 25 years.

Earlier this month, WRAL reported that millions of gallons ofsewage had leaked from the town's wastewater collection pipes into localwaterways. It appeared the leaks had gone unnoticed all those years.

Now, reports show Beaufort leaders found the leaks as early as 1993,made some repairs, but noted that more work possibly needed to be done.

The North Carolina Division of Water Quality is looking over the newreports. Town leaders had said they hoped to avoid a major fine for thespill because they didn't know about the spill and had quickly fixed theproblem upon discovering it.
