RALEIGH — One of the traditions of the holiday seasongot under way Monday night with the lighting of WRAL-TV5's tower.The public was invited to come by the television station on WesternBoulevard to watch the event.
Each December, the 300-foot tower becomes a sparkling sight formotorists and other passersby, as its several thousand multi-coloredlights shine through the night sky.
The strings of lights remain on the tower year-round, but are onlylighted during the holiday season. Each year, a special crew checks thelights for outages, replacing bulbs that need changing.
Lighting the tower has been a Capitol Broadcasting Company traditionsince the early 1950s.
