Mount Holly Food Stamp Recipients Left Out in the Cold
Posted November 21, 1997
MOUNT HOLLY — It couldn't be a worse time for the North Carolina food stamp system to fail, but it appears some families in Gaston County may go hungry this Thanksgiving.
Dozens of people in Mount Holly have yet to receive their food stamps for this month. The stamps were shipped from a distribution center in Raleigh, but no one knows what happened to them after that.
They could be re-issued, but that won't happen until the end of the month. For now, many families are turning to food banks to fill their plates.
Volunteers at Mount Holly area food banks say they'll keep their doors open until they run out of food.
