RALEIGH — Domestic violence can affect anyone, even someone sworn to uphold the law. Now, a Raleigh police officer is on suspension, charged with assaulting his girlfriend.
Officer Clarence Stanley was arrested Monday after the weekend altercation. An arrest warrant says Stanley grabbed his girlfriend's neck, pushed her and twisted her arm at a west Raleigh apartment.
Police investigators say they are treating this as they would any other domestic violence case. Sgt. J.K. Harrison says investigators have been told to do their jobs as usual.
Police say the girlfriend is out of state right now, but when she returns, they intend to charge her with simple assault for her role in this incident.
