Food Bank Swimming in Fair Food

RALEIGH — Fair organizers have finished weighing the yield of Wednesday's canned food drive, and the results are record breaking. Two-hundred-twenty-sixthousand pounds of food was collected at the fifth annual Winn Dixie Day.

That number breaks the record set back in 1994 by one thousand pounds. All of the canned goods will be donated to the Food Bank of NorthCarolina.

"We appreciate the wonderful generosity of the community," says AshPipken, president of the food bank board. "It shows the homelessand hungry are not forgotten."

In five years, the canned food drive has collected more than one millionpounds to help feed North Carolina's hungry.
