NC State Slaughterhouse Could Become a Reality

RALEIGH — North Carolina State University may be able to build a meat processing plant in west raleigh, after all, despite an earlier ruling by city officials that it could not. School officials want to build the facility at the veterinary school across from the state fairgrounds.
Raleigh officials ruled Monday night that the proposed building does not meet the legal definition of a slaughterhouse, because it is much smaller than traditional commercial meat processing plants.
Monday night's decision could mean the university won't need special zoning approval to build the facility.
