Deputy Recovering After Accidental Shooting

FAYETTEVILLE — A Cumberland County Sheriff's deputy who accidentally shot himself in theleg is doing better. It happened Friday night.

The Sheriff's office says Deputy Jerry Hall and another deputy were ridingin an unmarked car when a group of men came up and tried to sell themdrugs.

Apparently, the deputy drew his gun and started to run. He fell, and thegun went off. The suspect got away. Deputy Hall is recovering in CapeFear Hospital.

"He got out of the car, drew his service revolver, and held it to hisside," says Sheriff Moose Butler. "As he ran, he stumbled and fell, andthe weapon discharged accidentially, striking him in the upper right leg."

Dozens of patrol cars swarmed in to help in the search.
