FAYETTEVILLE — One actress who's landed in Fayetteville has plenty of experience being at the center of attention. A community theatre is playing host to a star who captured one of America's top crowns.
Susan Powell knows what it takes to be a show-stopper. The former Miss America from 1981 is host of "Home Matters" on the Discovery Channel. She's now paying a visit to Fayetteville, playing Rosabella in "The Most Happy Fella."
"This is a role I always wanted to do, and it kind of came across my agent's desk, and here I am," said Susan Powell, actress.
Powell is among two dozen cast members at the Cape Fear Regional Theatre.
"I'm thrilled to be here," said Powell. "My roots are in the community theatre, and I always do at least one guest appearance every year, one guest artist appearance, at a community-based theatre such as this."
Powell will help the theatre kick off its 36th season, and people are thrilled she could fit the performance into her schedule.
"She's so easy to know, and so much fun with the company," said Bo Thorp, artistic director. "She doesn't feel like a stranger in a mixed company of professionals and amateurs, and she's just been a delight."
Powell says she's enjoying the play and the company as they hit it off on-stage, and the audience will have plenty to applaud.
"The Most Happy Fella" premieres Friday and runs until October 19th in Fayetteville.
