RALEIGH — A North Carolina lawmaker is pushing for a welfare penalty that could cost the state millions of dollars. WRAL reported Wednesday that North Carolina missed a deadline under the new welfare reform law.
The state failed to place 75 percent of two-parent welfare families into the work force. Senator Lauch Faircloth says he wants the government to enforce penalties against all states that didn't meet the deadline. That could cost North Carolina $15 million.
