Sharpsburg Residents Hold Candelight Vigil for Wayne Hathaway

SHARPSBURG — The longtime leader of the Sharpsburg Police Department was murdered justtwo months ago, but it will take a lot longer before people are completelyover his death.

Friends, family members and Sharpsburg neighbors met Thursday night toremember Chief Wayne Hathaway.

The town of Sharpsburg continues to mourn the loss of fallen police chiefWayne Hathaway. On July 17th, Hathaway answered a domestic call involvingGloria and Abner Nicholson. Investigators say Abner Nicholson pulled out agun and shot his wife, then shot Hathaway.

Now, two months later, friends and family came together at Sharpsburg'sFirst Baptist Church to pay tribute to their fallen hero with a candlelightvigil.

The vigil was part of the town's attempt to bring closure to the tragedy.Even if they find that closure, they said the life and memories ofHathaway will forever burn in their hearts.

About 60 people attended Thursday night's ceremony. They plan to come together once a year to remember Hathaway.
