Fayetteville Police Send Warning to Adults
Posted September 9, 1997
FAYETTEVILLE — In Fayetteville, police are warning adults about obeying laws. The law they have in mind states that ignorance is not an excuse. Police say they've noticed a disturbing trend in the number of statutory rape cases in the area.
They say part of the problem is teenage girls who lie about their age. Police warn that if a person has sex with a minor, even if it's consensual, that person may face statutory rape charges under North Carolina law.
