Man Accused of Killing Raleigh Cop Goes to Court

RALEIGH — An accused cop killer was back in courtThursday. Kawame Mays is accused of killing Raleigh police Detective PaulHale and another man last month.At Thursday's hearing, the district attorney announced he will seek thedeath penalty. Because of that, Judge Don Stephens appointed Mays a secondlawyer.

Through his attorney, Mays took the opportunity to complain about abusive treatment at Western Correctional Center where he's being held. The judge said he'd notify the Department of Corrections.

The case is set for trial March 2nd.
