Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — Getting speeding motorists to slow down can be a time-consuming job. TheFayetteville Police Department now has a "Smart Trailer" to show them whenand where drivers are breaking the law.

The Smart Trailer records the time and speed of every passing car soofficers can step up enforcement during peak speeding hours.

"It's going to save a lot of man hours," said Sgt. Wesley Waters, Fayetteville Police Department. "I can put this out here and it's self contained, it's alarmed, if anyone tampers with it, the alarm activates. And I can use those police officers to go other things."

The Smart Trailer isn't cheap. It costs $16,000, but Waters said it will pay for itself in just one year.
