Jimmy V. Classic Promises Triumph and Traffic

The Jimmy V. Golf Tournament is truly a "classic."
CARY — Celebrities, athletes, and thousands of supporters are expected to turnout Sunday for the Jimmy V. Celebrity Golf Classic. The event is thelargest fundraiser for the "V" Foundation and its battle against cancer.If you're planning to attend the event, you can expect lots of crowds,lots of parking problems, and some trouble seeing all of the stars.

The celebrities are out. The parking lots are packed. Traffic is alreadya nightmare. So where do you park if you want to go to the Jimmy V.Celebrity Golf Classic?

Division Manager Graham Wilson says there's no parking at Prestonwood.They have barely enough spots for the participants. Alternate spots havebeen created to do that.

You don't have to look far to see what the situation is like. You mighthave more luck at Carter Finley Stadium, where shuttles are expected totake spectators to the course. Spectators think the shuttles will help.

Jamie Watkins believes it may not be as convenient, but at least you don'thave to drive around looking for a space or fight the crowds.

Some people are lucky enough that parking isn't an issue. KimRutherford's family lives on the course. She plans to get a good look atSunday's festivities from the deck.

More the 25,000 people are expected to turn out for the tournament, andthat number doesn't include the 1,000 volunteers who will work the event.

The Jimmy V. Classic has a four-year history of attracting of all kinds ofspectators and celebrities. So no matter where you park, chances are youcould get a glimpse of a star up close.

If you plan to take the shuttle from Carter Finley Stadium in Raleigh, thecost is $5.00 per car. There are five drop off spots along the course.The "V" Foundation has raised over a million and a half dollars over thelast year for cancer research just from the golf tournament alone.
