Will End-of-Grade Testing Pass in Johnston Co.?

SMITHFIELD — In Johnston County, a student's performanceon one test could make the difference between one grade and the next. Thecounty's battle over the end of grade testing goes before a judge today.

The judge will hear a request for an injunction on a county school policy.A group of parents has filed a class action suit asking the school boardto change the end-of-grade testing rule.

The policy gives third-through-eighth grade students three chancesto pass end-of-grade tests each school year.If they fail, they can be held back even if they made A's and B'sthroughout the school year.
